I lived without health insurance for the last 8 yrs., and received all my treatment from free clinics in New York, Florida, and Virginia where I have resided over the last 9 yrs.. I applied for SSD in 2009 for the second time, and just was recently approved through an appeal after being denied. They only want to pay me from 3/2011 at which time I turned 55. Now I am wondering what kind of insurance do they give you once you are approved. Is it Medicare or Medicaid, and how much treatment can you get under these programs.

patch2012 September 5 at 10:45 pm0 LikesEdited September 5 at 10:47 pm by patch2012Social Security only goes back 3 yrs from the time you are awarded SSDI and after 2 years you are eligable for Medicare which pays 80% partA partB pays 100% on somethings 80% on the rest after you meet deductables. Medicare eligablity time period may have changed since Obama care. When i recieved SSDI I had to wait two years for medicare to start it took me 18 months to get SSDI.

djpavek July 21 at 10:52 am1 LikeHi Lovenloyalty.. I think you will get Medicare, but as I have heard from others, that it don't pay everything. Its good you got SSD, I know it is hard to get on them. They should have paid you from back when you signed up. I would do some checking on it and maybe write to your Senator or Mayor, don't give up.

I have a right to appeal the decision to the Appeals Council if I don't like the decision of the Administrative Law Judge. I have 60 days to do this. I'm really thinking about further fighting this, but then I just want to settle. I have no attorney I'm fighting on my own

LanaPA July 25 at 10:05 am1 LikeYou can contact a lawyer who will only receive payment when you win your case. I assume the payment will come from any lump sum payment your receive. However, I am not sure. It is possible the SS Admin may have to pay the fee. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to discuss your case with you and how payment will be arranged. It may help you out to hire someone and meeting with someone doesn't cost anything. Good luck to you.

In some states you can find legal agencies that will do a free appeal. I was turned down twice and used a lawyer both times. I was denied a third time, appealed and fort the appeal myself and won. I applied 11/09 and settled by appeal 06/12. All that I was awarded belongs to me, but they pay in 3 installments.

You are eligable for medicaid while signing up for SS disability as long as you meet your states asset limits and income limits

Most states you can go threw legal aide and get a free lawyer to handle your case SS won't pay for a lawyer but the judge can set the fee the lawyer can collect from you out of your back pay.

It doesn't hurt to check things out first. And then you look at going back 3 years, that adds up and you don't want it going into anyone elses hands, it belongs to you, but that is your decision. Let us know what happens.
